What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob

Smart Keys Keys

The key fob that was included with the Nissan is a crucial component of its advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronics to unlock doors or start the engine, and has a practical design that is simple to keep in your wallet. Key fobs also come with convenience features like an alarm that can be locked out, which ensures that you don't leave the vehicle without keys inside.

Unlike previous models of key fobs that required you to put the key in an ignition slot to gain access to the onboard systems in your vehicle, smart keys operate wirelessly. Nissan detects when you enter your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This can include locking or opening the doors, raising and lowering the tailgate, and even starting the engine.

Certain smart key models have an invisible valet key made of metal. The key can be taken from a release on the side of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox prior to giving it to a valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.

It is possible to replace the batteries on your Nissan Intelligent Key fob if it's not working as it should. Most fobs are powered by CR2025 or CR2032 batteries, and instructions to change the batteries are available in your owner's manual.

Intelligent Key Fob

With the Nissan Intelligent Key Fob you can unlock your car doors and start the engine at the touch of an button. It also allows you to activate a collection of presets that cater to your preferences such as adjusting the mirrors and seat to maximize comfort. You can control the music via your smartphone so you don't have to leave your car.

Intelligent Key Fobs are equipped with an antenna built-in which sends an alert to your vehicle every time you press a button or approach it. Once your vehicle receives this signal it will activate the system, unlocking or locking doors, beginning the engine, as well as opening the trunk. If you want to test the fob, stand a distance away from your vehicle and press the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sounds, then you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.

Like all remotes, Intelligent Key fobs require batteries to operate. Our Parts Department will help you quickly and efficiently replace it if it runs out of batteries. To do this, take out the key that is hidden and then open the battery compartment on your key fob. Replace the battery with a brand new one after removing the previous one. Make sure that the positive side of the new one is facing the same direction as the previous one did. Close the battery compartment, and then put the key to its hid place inside the case.

Remote Start

Nissan remote start enables drivers to heat or cool their vehicles from outside, insofar as they're within the operating range. The ignition on the car is activated when a driver presses a button on their key fob or smartphone app. Remote start systems can also turn on the climate control which allows the driver to decide on their preferred temperature. Certain systems come with two-way communication which allows the driver to see what is happening in their vehicle.

If the remote start feature of your car isn't working, the main reason is a low battery. The key fob has batteries that are small and replaceable that lasts approximately two years before needing to be replaced. It's an easy task, but you'll have to know the location of the key hidden on your Intelligent Key fob and how to access the battery compartment.

To do so, flip your fob over and press the key release latch on the back of the key pad. Once the key pad is open take the old battery out and insert a fresh one, making sure it is of the same dimensions and configuration of the current battery. Be sure to reinstall the hidden key and put back the key fob in the correct way before closing the case. Our parts department is able to assist you with replacing the battery on your Intelligent Key fob.

Lockout Protection

Lockout protection eliminates the nuisance of lockouts that are caused by the impedance relay failing. A special module within the power control unit detects the activity of the impedance relay and shuts off the output. This feature is available for vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system, or via the personalization menu.

Many serious accidents have happened because of a machine that was running when it should have been shut off to allow for maintenance or repair. These accidents are often the result of stored energy that is not properly released. Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) which makes sure that machines remain off until an authorized person releases them, helps avoid these accidents.

The LOTO system is comprised of a variety of locks, tags, and other devices that isolate, secure or isolate a machine from an electrical source. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel must be educated on the use of these devices. These devices include but are not limited to locks, chains padslocks, wedges adapter pins and self-locking fasteners. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, including the date and time that it was put in use, the name and title of the person who is authorized and the reason for the lockout or tagout (repairs, maintenance and so on.). It must be clearly stated that these devices are not to be removed until the LOTO procedure is complete.
